Short form users guide about logging in to the Cray Y-MP EL
First, you open an SSH session from your local machine to the Cray-Cyber
network as user guest (or as your own user, if you have an account) by typing:
[you@yourmachine ~]$ ssh guest@login.cray-cyber.org
You will be prompted for the password now. The password for the guest account
is guest.
A menu where you can choose which host you want to connect to will open now.
Choose menupoint 1 (yel.cray-cyber.org) and press enter.
You will now be connected to the Cray and see a screen similar to:
Trying 192.168.4.20...
Connected to 192.168.4.20.
Escape character is '^]'.
Cray UNICOS (yel.cray-cyber.org) (ttyp000)
UNICOS Release 9.0
login:
Log in with the same username and password that you are using on the login
server.
Please notice, that if you want to change your password, do so in the menu
system - changing it on the Cray will have impact for a maximum of 10 minutes.
You will now get a login shell:
[user@yel user]$
You are logged on now. UNICOS is a normal UNIX, that means, you should be able
to do most of the things you are already familiar with from other Unices.
If not, search for Unix Tutorials in google and read through them.
Enter man commandname where you replace commandname with the command you want
to see the manual page for.
Some useful commands (see man commandname for details)
vi sourcefilename.f for editing FORTRAN-77 source files
vi sourcefilename.c for editing c source files
cf77 for FORTRAN compilation and linking
cc for c compilation and linking
./a.out for executing the program
